This can be set in various places in the settings of the category or menuitem.
To be able to border the items, you need to add a class bordered to the css of your template.
In a Cassiopea template this can be added in user.css in the media map of the template.

If you have the user rights in the system to edit or delete a item, the edit buttons apear here when you log in to the site.
You can also see here how the item layout is set with the icons.
If the number of views is set to not show in the menuitem settings, the number of downloads also apear here.
If you click on Edit you get a full-screen editor to alter the item.
